This event will feature Edward Kuperman '25, who will share his experience working in China as a member of the local media center in Dunhuang. The event will include a screening of a 20-minute documentary that Edward produced during his time in Dunhuang, followed by a discussion of his path to pursuing a career in China and how he navigated career decisions amid public controversy.


Drawing on personal experiences and perspectives on public perception, the discussion will explore broader themes including the spread of misinformation, soft power, and career opportunities for the expatriate community in China.

  • Edward Kuperman โ€™25

    Edward Kuperman ’25

    Edward Kuperman holds a BA and MA in East Asian Studies from Yale, where he focused on Chinese traditional thought and education policy. He has studied Mandarin for over 10 years, fascinated by the enduring differences between American and Chinese societies and driven to build bridges across cultural diversity. From 2019-2025, he won four study abroad opportunities in mainland China and Taiwan, travelling to nearly every Chinese province and experiencing life as a rural educator, startup employee, and EV salesman. After graduating from Yale in Dec 2025, Edward headed to Dunhuang, Gansu in China’s underdeveloped Northwest to work as a content creator, showcasing tourist sites and local handicraft. Along the way, he has shared insights on China in outlets such as The Yale Daily News, China Talk, and The Diplomat.
