Event Description


On December 9, Hannah Grannemann (MBA '08, MFA '08), Assistant Professor of Arts Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Ming Ma, Professor of Arts Administration at the Beijing Dance Academy, Jing Li, Musical Theater Producer, and Julia Zhu (MBA '98), CEO of Phoenix Live Entertainment Company, will share insights into the complex American and Chinese arts industries and discuss cross-cultural opportunities, with a focus on the Chinese market for Broadway theater productions.


Refreshments will be provided.

    Hannah Grannemann

    MBA '08, MFA '08, University of North Carolina at Greensboro

    Hannah Grannemann joined UNCG in 2017. Before that, she was the Executive Director of the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, Associate Managing Director of the Yale Repertory Theatre, and Associate Consultant at C.W. Shaver & Company in New York City. She was the Secretary of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Arts North Carolina.

    Grannemann holds a BFA in Theatre from New York University/Tisch School of the Arts, an MFA in Theatre Management from the Yale School of Drama, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

    Associate Dean of the College of Humanities, Beijing Dance Academy

    Ming Ma is the Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Head of the Arts Communication Department at Beijing Dance Academy. With a research focus in art administration and art industry development, Professor Ma also serves as a board member of the China Art Administration and Culture Industry Association, as well as the Beijing Peacock Singing and Dance Company. In addition to his role in these professional organizations, Ming has also led multiple distinguished national and provincial research projects and produced many musicals and dance productions.

    Musical Theater Producer, Arts Center Management Consultant

    Jing has ten years of experience in theater production and management. She has worked at the Smithsonian Institute, the China Arts and Entertainment Group, and the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. She was the executive producer of the Chinese production of MAMMA MIA! Her festivals productions including Women of the World Festical (Beijing), Smithsonian Folklife Festival, etc. She also presented and promoted international touring productions, such as The Phantom of the Opera and Kinky Boots.

    MBA '98, Chief Executive Officer, Phoenix Live Entertainment Company

    Julia Zhu is the Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Live Entertainment Company, a subsidiary of the Phoenix TV Group in Hong Kong. Under her leadership, Phoenix Live Entertainment co-sponsored the "River Dance" tour in China, the “Tea House” tour in Beijing and Shanghai, and numerous music festivals and concert tours of international artists. She brought a Shanghai musical Shimmer - Jews in Shanghai to Broadway in 2016.

    Prior to Phoenix, Julia was Co-Founder and President of Redgate Media Group and Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at STAR Group Limited. Julia holds an MBA from Yale School of Management.
