Event Details

Co-organized by the Palace Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), the exhibition "Rejoicing in Woods and Springs: a journey through Garden Cultures in China and the Wider World" is on view at the Meridian Gate (Wu men) complex. The exhibition features more than 200 representative artifacts from the leading institutions, including the Yale Center for British Art, the AIC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Palace of Versailles, the National Museum of China, and the Tianjin Museum.

On June 27, Martina Droth, Director of the Yale Center for British Art, will join experts from the Palace Museum in guiding participants through classical Chinese gardens and diverse garden traditions from around the world. During the tour, she will share insights into the exhibition's background, curatorial approach and vision, as well as the stories behind the displayed artifacts. This event has limited capacity and is open to Yale faculty, students, and alumni only.

    Director of Yale Center for British Art

    Martina Droth is the Paul Mellon Director of the Yale Center for British Art. Her curatorial work and research focus on sculpture and British art. She has led numerous high-profile YCBA exhibitions and collaborated with renowned institutions including Tate Britain, the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge University, and the Getty Museum. Prior to joining Yale, Droth taught at universities and coordinated research and curated exhibitions for major art institutes in the UK, and served as Chair of the Association of Research Institutes in Art History from 2016 to 2022.
