Hao Liu is a young blind pianist born in rural China in 2001. Although he lost his vision shortly after birth, his discovered a passion for music at the age of three and soon demonstrated remarkable musical talent. Inspired by world-renowned Chinese classical pianist Lang Lang, Liu went on to study with leading pianists including Yuan Sheng, Professor of the Central Conservatory of Music, and received guidance from Jerome Lowenthal, a distinguished professor at The Juilliard School and a revered master of piano pedagogy.
In 2022, Liu was admitted to three leading American conservatories and chose to attend the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Alexander Shtarkman, Chair of the Piano Department. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in 2026 and will continue his studies in the master's program at the New England Conservatory.
Liu has been featured on numerous national and regional television programs in China. In 2025, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Liu performed at Hukou Waterfall in Shanxi, and joined Lang Lang in a performance of the Yellow River Piano Concerto at the China Millennium Monument.
