Event Description

The Hon. Toni Harp, the first woman mayor of New Haven, and graduate of the Yale School of Architecture, will speak on the status of New Haven, its productive partnership with Yale, and the City’s new Sister City relationship with Changsha. The Mayor is visiting China with a delegation of New Haven citizens representing education, business, technology, medicine and the arts, and will travel to Hunan for official ceremonies and business development after her visit to Beijing.

The language of the event will be English.

RMB 20 for students; RMB 60 for Yale alumni; RMB 80 for others.

    Toni Harp

    Mayor of New Haven

    An abiding commitment to social justice steers Mayor Harp’s career in public service. Her interest in urban planning led her to serve as a member of New Haven’s Board of Aldermen, then for 21 years as state Senator for Connecticut’s 10th District. She was recently elected to a third term as mayor. Throughout her career, her policy priorities have centered on full access to affordable healthcare, public safety and an equitable criminal justice system, public education, with particular emphasis on early childhood learning and literacy, and job creation and economic development.

    Toni Harp has lived in New Haven for more than 40 years and was the Homeless Service Director at the Cornell Scott Hill Health Center for more than 20 years.
