This session will feature Edward Kuperman '24, MA '25, who will share his experience working in China in international communications. The event will include a screening of a 20-minute documentary that Edward produced during his time in Dunhuang, followed by a discussion of his experience seeking and working in an international communications role as a foreign professional in China, as well as how he navigated career decisions in the face of public controversy.     Edward Kuperman ’25

    Edward Kuperman holds a BA and MA from Yale University in East Asian Studies, where he focused on Chinese traditional thought and the political economy of the Opening and Reform period. He has studied Mandarin for over 10 years, driven by a fascination with the deep differences between American and Chinese societies and a desire to build bridges across cultural diversity. From 2019-2025, he won four study abroad opportunities in mainland China and Taiwan travelling to nearly every Chinese province and experiencing life as a rural educator, startup employee, and EV salesman. After graduating from Yale in Winter 2025, Edward headed to Dunhuang, Gansu in China’s underdeveloped Northwest to serve as a content creator, showcasing tourist sites and marketing local handicraft. Along the way, he has shared insights from his experiences and research in outlets such as The Yale Daily News, China Talk, and The Diplomat.
